ACADEMC AND SCIENTIFIC ADVISORY COMMITTEE (ASAC) MANDATE

The ASAC is an advisory committee of the SGSP-IWRM to both NUST and SASSCAL, respectively with a clear regional integration and alignment mandate. Amongst others, ASAC takes part in the evaluation of the applications and recommendation of PhD candidates to SASSCAL for awarding of the scholarship.  The SGSP-IWRM shall host 15 international PhD students selected via a rigorous and transparent process following a set of defined criteria.

Dr Luna Bharati has over 15 years of post-PhD. experience as a senior scientist and research programme manager with extensive international expertise in North America, Europe, South Asia, South-East Asia and West Africa. Her research interests are in integrated water resources assessment and management. She has also worked extensively in assessing climate change risks and impacts in large river basins to small mountain watersheds and farming systems. Prior to joining the International Center for Water Resources and Global Change (ICWRGC), she was a principal researcher of hydrology and water resources at the International Water Management Institute (IWMI) under CGIAR. Before IWMI, she worked for the Center for Development Research (ZEF) in Bonn, Germany on the Global Change and Hydrological Cycle (GLOWA) project in the Volta Basin, Africa.

She holds a bachelor’s majoring in Environmental Sciences-Biology and a minor in Economics from Luther College, USA; a Master’s in water resources from Iowa State University, USA, and she conducted her doctoral research at the Deptartment of hydrological modeling at the Helmholtz Center for Environmental Research- UFZ in Germany.

The objective of the SGSP – IWRM is the development and deployment of an innovative and excellent regional collaborative education and research programme at PhD degree level complemented by selected tailor-made short courses for decision makers and industry, as well as a curriculum for a new regional PhD qualification in IWRM.
