SGSP–IWRM Launches First Cohort Symposium💧
The first cohort symposium of the SASSCAL Graduate Studies Programme in Integrated Water Resources Management (SGSP-IWRM) is currently underway.
The event has brought together PhD students, university lecturers, water #experts, research organisations, and other partners who are working on climate and water issues in the region. The gathering marks a key milestone for the programme, as it looks back on the progress and achievements made by the first group of SGSP-IWRM PhD students. The students are sharing their research results, discussing what they have learned, and talking about new ways to improve the management of #water resources in Southern Africa.
Taking place from 11 to 12 November 2025, in Windhoek, Namibia the symposium is focused on exchanging knowledge and strengthening cooperation . Participants are discussing the challenges affecting water in the region, such as climate change and growing demand, and are exploring practical solutions that can help support communities and sustainable development. Among those attending the event are the SASSCAL Alternate Board Member for Zambia, Mr. John Lukonde Chongo; Dr. Verena Hebbecker, Germany's Alternate Board Member at SASSCAL, Executive Director, Prof. Nelago Indongo; Acting Deputy Executive Director in the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, Water and Land Reform, Ms. Pauline Mufeti; members of the SGSP-IWRM Academic, Scientific and Advisory Committees; SASSCAL Director of Science, Technology and Human Capacity Development, Dr. Budzanani Tacheba; academic partner institutions; and experts from the water sector.
The symposium highlights the importance of working #together, building research capacity, and sharing knowledge to address the region’s water challenges now and in the future.
